Location: Marseille
Job Description: Offer Description
Located on the Luminy campus, IBDM employs around 240 permanent researchers, lecturers, engineers and technicians, as well as non-permanent staff on fixed-term contracts, post-docs, PhD students and trainees, spread across 21 research teams and 11 technical platforms and services. IBDM is a joint research unit under the supervision of CNRS and AMU, exploring the field of developmental biology and associated pathologies. The activity will be carried out within the „Gene regulation by transcription factors“ team led by Yacine Graba and Andrew Saurin. As the team is made up of several nationalities, English is essential.
The PhD student will study how protein sequences influence the liquid-liquid phase separation (LLPS) and nuclear sub-compartization of transcription factors, and how this influences gene regulation during development. Hox proteins, key transcription factors that play a major role in the establishment of animal body plans, will serve as a paradigm for the study. A background in molecular and cellular biology is expected. Previous experience in confocal microscopy and manipulation of the Drosophila model organism would be appreciated, but is not essential.
