The Director Content Design and Development will be a key part of this effort, playing an important role in the design, development, and delivery of a range of training initiatives, involving the creation of content for functional trainings, cross-functional initiatives as well as other Academy offerings. This role basically involves strength in instructional design, storytelling, and the creation of impactful user learning journeys. A critical part of this role will require understanding how to take complex messages and create memorable learning experiences from these. This individual will work closely with HL Academy’s dean as well as other portfolio owners and Centers of Excellence within the Academy to define and create the outline and content of these programs

In close alignment with the Academy’s Dean, the Director’s key responsibilities are as follows:

  • Develop a comprehensive instructional design for a range of programs that span a range of tenures from new hires to senior leaders. The initial focus will be to support the launch of functional academies, but this will soon extend various other learning interventions.

This will involve:

  • Program design and content: Continually review and refine curriculum for existing programs, contributing instructional design expertise to new programs; work with SMEs to develop curriculum for new programs.
  • Identifying the core content that such a program should cover and ensure application of the best storytelling learning approaches for delivery of this content.
  • Prototyping and testing alternative methods of learning; evaluation of effectiveness and incorporation of the most effective methods (including evaluation of Digital channels for delivery if possible).
  • Supporting where required, a rollout plan for this program, including faculty plan and other logistical aspects such as feedback collection, iteration on design etc.
  • In certain cases, the individual might be required to ensure that designed sessions run smoothly (e.g., faculty delivery, logistical requirements, solve on-site problems),
  • Where appropriate, support core faculty for programs and attend launch learning event to
  • ensure that events are meeting stated objectives
  • evaluate the effectiveness of new learning methods
  • evaluate the effectiveness of internal/external faculty
  • Provide input to program objectives and ensure delivery meets objectives for each audience

To be successful, the incumbent will need to interface effectively with a diverse range of other Hapag-Lloyd Academy colleagues and external constituencies to ensure best practices are shared and synergies are captured where possible.

General Qualifications

  • Working experience in learning design as well as in instructional design and comfort with instructional technology
  • Ability to write content strategies
  • Production skills around creation of content (films, nuggets etc.)
  • Excellent knowledge of storytelling and instructional design models
  • Lesson and curriculum planning skills
  • Solid knowledge of course development and know-how of at least one Learning Management System
  • Visual design skills and ability to storyboard
  • Ability to write effective copy, instructional text, audio scripts/video scripts
